Spider vein removal in New Haven County, performed by our expert vein specialists will help make your spider veins disappear instantly, using the most advanced non-invasive techniques that leave little to no scarring on your legs.
Spider veins, the little purple or red veins that appear at the surface of the legs, are usually the result of a deeper problem within your leg veins, known as venous insufficiency.
If you have developed spider veins on your legs, it is recommended to have a vein consultation to help determine if your spider veins are due to venous insufficiency.
INITIAL CONSULTATION FOR SPIDER VEIN TREATMENT
If you are not diagnosed with venous insufficiency and have developed unsightly spider veins on your legs that you would like removed, our vein specialists can remove your spider veins quickly and easily using visual sclerotherapy, or foam sclerotherapy right in our office.
If you are diagnosed with venous insufficiency, it is important to have venous insufficiency treatment to address the source of spider veins before having spider vein removal. This will help prevent spider veins from reappearing on the legs.
"Why Do I Have Spider Veins?"
SPIDER VEINS FORM DUE TO LEAKY VEIN VALVES DEEPER IN THE LEG
Most often, when people see spider veins at the surface of the skin on their legs, it is due to leaky vein valves in the deeper veins. Vein valves are supposed to open and close as blood circulates through the body, pushing blood upwards from the feet towards the heart.
When these valves malfunction, they allow blood to flow downwards and pool in the lower leg. This causes additional pressure within the veins, making the veins expand and bulge.
These bulging (varicose) veins below the surface of the skin eventually start to create smaller red and purple veins near the surface of the skin, known as spider veins.
The bulging veins deep below the surface of the skin feed spider veins. So it is important to treat those deeper veins first, before trying to remove the spider veins at the surface of the skin, otherwise the spider veins will simply be created again.

Using The Most Advanced & Effective
Spider Vein Removal Techniques
USING FOAM SCLEROTHERAPY
TO TREAT ENLARGED VEINS BELOW THE SKIN'S SURFACE
Our vein specialists use foam sclerotherapy to close up the bulging veins that are beneath the surface of the skin. These bulging veins may not be visible on the skin’s surface, however they are the cause of the formation of the visible spider veins that form.
Working together with our Registered Vascular Technologists (RVTs), our vein treatment specialists use ultrasound to identify these veins. A tiny needle is inserted into the vein, and a foam medication is injected directly into the vein.
The medication causes the veins to shrivel up and close. Successful closure of the vein is confirmed using ultrasound. Physical removal of the vein is not necessary since the shriveled-up vein will become absorbed by the body.
This foam sclerotherapy procedure is quick and patients report little to no discomfort during treatment. It is performed right in our office and takes less than 30 minutes to perform, depending on the number of veins treated.
It is important to note that multiple sessions may be required if multiple veins are discovered on the ultrasound.
USING VISUAL SCLEROTHERAPY
TO REMOVE SPIDER VEINS ON THE SKIN'S SURFACE
After the deeper veins that feed spider veins (tributary varicose veins) are closed using foam sclerotherapy, the tiny spider veins that are visible on the skin’s surface can be treated. This treatment is known as visual sclerotherapy. These two treatments may be performed during the same treatment session.
During visual sclerotherapy, each individual vein is punctured with a tiny needle. Medication is injected into the veins, causing them to disappear. Your vein removal specialist will target the spider veins that are visible on your legs. They may also use a bright light pressed against the skin to locate and target other spider veins that are not plainly visible.
Initially there may be some redness as the veins naturally become inflamed in the process of treatment. It is important to note that multiple sessions may be required for spider vein removal.

Spider Vein Removal Patient Testimonials
Board Certified Vascular Surgeon Dr. Esposito Explains Spider Veins
“Most people look at spider veins and consider them to be cosmetic in nature. Many times they can be, but they can also be a sign of more serious problems underneath the skin.
So, I always tell people who notice varicose veins or spider veins on their legs to just have them checked by a vascular specialist.
With a simple ultrasound we can tell if there’s something more serious going on underneath, where there’s a problem that’s causing these veins to pop out.”

“If there is an underlying problem, we’ll treat that. It’s very easy to treat. We fix the problem. Sometimes, just by fixing that problem, the veins that you see on the skin may go away. You might not need any more treatment. But if they’re there, then we can treat them.
Here at Milford Vascular Institute, we have experts in sclerotherapy, which is where we put small needles into those veins. We inject them individually with medication that makes them disappear. They’re all done in the office in a minimally-invasive way.
And most of the time insurance pays for them too because you’re getting a vascular evaluation, and treating an underlying medical problem.
So, if you have spider veins on your legs, your first step should be come to the Milford Vascular Institute. Let us check it out. We’ll tell you what you need to have done. And whatever you need to have done, we can get it all done here in one place.”

Post Sclerotherapy Instructions & What To Expect
"What If I'm Afraid Of Needles?"
THE PRO-NOX™ SYSTEM WILL HELP YOU RELAX
Sclerotherapy injections are performed using a tiny needle, causing minimal to no pain at all during treatment. Some patients may feel a little sting in the treatment area.
However, sometimes patients may become anxious because they are afraid of needles.
To reduce any anxiety or discomfort you may have during sclerotherapy, at Milford Vascular Institute, we have made the PRO-NOX™ system available to any patients who request to use it.
The PRO-NOX™ system is a self-administered nitrous oxide and oxygen analgesia system. It allows you to control how much anxiety or pain relief you receive by inhaling the gas through a tube you place in your mouth. You will immediately feel relaxed once you start inhaling the gas mixture. The gas mixture clears from your body within minutes, so you will be alert and able to function safely after the procedure.
